Q: “Lovesick Puppy” is an awesome love song with elements of electronic pop and jazz. What inspired you to make this track?
ALEXNDER LUNA: My co producer, Sean Geisbush and I always try to combine those exact elements anytime we collaborate as that’s our backgrounds. Sean with jazz and myself with the electronic/pop sort of sounds. Once we had the beat finished I knew I wanted to call it “lovesick puppy”, so I had my vocalist friend write lyrics around that theme.
Q: I love the instrumentals in the beginning and how your lyrics come in flawlessly. Can you take me through the production process in creating “Lovesick Puppy”?
ALEXNDER LUNA: When first creating the instrumental Sean and I try to flesh out as many ideas as we can and create whole different sections so the song is dynamic. It’s usually a given that we try to have saxophone on a song since he plays, haha. After we finish an instrumental, I try to meet with a vocalist in person to help write lyrics and come up with melodies. It usually helps if I come to the vocalist with a theme or especially a vocal melody.
Q: What did you enjoy most about making this track?
ALEXNDER LUNA: I really enjoyed creating the middle/breakdown section and coming up with the saxophone melody. It’s so important to us to come up with a lead melody line that is catchy but also fits a song flawlessly without sounding like too much of a reach.
Q: If you were on a stranded island and could only listen to three albums, which albums would you choose and why?
ALEXNDER LUNA: Although this is an impossible question for me because of the kind of album listener I am, I’d have to say: Justin Timberlake: Justified, Tyler The Creator: IGOR, and Justice: Justice. To try and cover all my bases in Hip Hop, R&B, and electronic music, haha.
Q: What do you enjoy most about being a musician? What do you hate most?
ALEXNDER LUNA: For me, music is very hot and cold. Some days I have High Highs and some days, low lows. Thankfully I have a lot of fellow creatives and musicians to look to when needing guidance, inspiration, and feedback. What I enjoy most is that excited inner feeling I get when I know I’m creating something good. I equally love showing someone a song I’m working on and getting that person smiling and dancing.
Q: How has the pandemic affected your music?
ALEXNDER LUNA: The pandemic actually had me not making music for a while in the start because I was renovating my garage into a home studio. After that was finished, the amount of music I was working on shot up a lot. There was a lot of sending music ideas back and forth to friends, and coming up with themes for future projects. Once things started opening back up the amount of music sessions became super consistent again.
Q: Any projects in the works?
ALXNDER LUNA: Yes! I’m currently in the middle of a roll out for my newest EP, “NIGHT MOVES 2”! Which comes out in late June / early July. I’m suuuuper excited because this is some of the music art my friends and I have created. From the music to the music videos. The project is all about getting the listener dancing, smiling, and feeling good about themselves so I really hope people enjoy it. @alexnderluna on all social media and “Alexnder Luna” on streaming services!!
