Artist Interview: “The TV Made Me Do It” by Moon Walker

Q: Back again with another interview, I’m very excited about “The TV Made Me Do It”, what does the “it” refer to in the song?

MOON WALKER: Yes, thank you so much for chatting with us again! So, I wrote the whole song up to the bridge about media sensationalism and scapegoating, not knowing what the “it” was, specifically. I knew that in the bridge I would have to give some answer as to what the character in the song actually did. The next morning the capitol insurrection happened. I thought that was the perfect “it”, since the people who carried it out are most of the same people who always blame media/entertainment for domestic terrorism. So, the “it” is all those psychos storming the capitol, but the message of the song is way more broad than that and lobs criticism at more than just the soulless criminals who carried it out..

Q:  How do you go about writing a song? Do you have a melody in your head and then write the other music for it?

MOON WALKER: It’s pretty much different for every song. This one started with a simple drum loop and that intro bass riff. It still kind’ve blows my mind that I was able to think of a melody over that frenetic, crazy bass riff haha! But once I started with the vocals, it all fell in my lap.

Q: If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be??

MOON WALKER: Great question! If we’re talking living/active artists, Jack White or Run The Jewels. If we’re talking anyone, Bowie or Talking Heads.

Q: Where have you performed? Do you have any upcoming shows?

MOON WALKERIn our other band, The Midnight Club, we’ve performed across the country. Moon Walker hasn’t yet played but we do have our first show on July 7th at an LA club called Adults Only!

Q: Which song is more fun to play “Tear Down The Wall” or “The TV Made Me Do It”?

MOON WALKERTough question… Those are two of the most fun in the set… It depends on the day but I guess I’ll say TV, since some parts of Tear Down The Wall are difficult to play and sing at the same time.

Q: What’s an average day like for Moon Walker?

MOON WALKER: Another great question that will, unfortunately, garner a pretty boring answer haha! Wake up, get coffee, make music, get coffee, make music, watch movies, fall asleep. For better or worse, it really is that simple!
