Q: What is the story behind “Carefree”?
Lissy Taylor: When I wrote the song I had a lot going on. Writing the song was a turning point of deciding that I was going to be the one who decides how I feel and let go of any negativity in order to be carefree.
Q: “Carefree” is an empowering, dance-inducing song. What is your favorite line from the song and why?
Lissy: My favourite line from the song is, “I am my own remedy” because I really think that’s a key theme of the song. It’s empowering to take the stance of “I’m going to be in charge of my emotions, I’m going to heal and not let anything hold me back.”
Q: How did you get your start in music?
Lissy: I started songwriting when I moved to America and from there I started playing solo shows. When I was 17, I met my band when I moved to Manchester (UK) and took it from there.
Q: You have a few shows lined up throughout the year. After having time away from performing due to a pandemic, what do you miss most about live shows?
Lissy Taylor: I miss the connection with the audience, everyone being in the same moment singing and dancing together.
Q: What is your favorite part of performing?
Lissy: When I see people sing the words to a song I’ve wrote, that feels really special.
Q: What inspires your sound?
Lissy: All my writing comes from my own experiences. The main inspiration always starts with the feeling I’m trying to create and then branches out from there.
Q: You are based in Manchester but spend part of your life in the U.S.. How do you think that has influenced the music you create?
Lissy: I think it has had a huge influence because it really forced me to develop my own sound from hearing such a wide range of music growing up.
Q: What’s next for you?
Lissy: My new EP “Undercurrent” will be out on July 30th. I’m lining up more shows for the rest of the year but I do already have a UK tour set for November and December. Tour dates and tickets can be accessed on my website at LissyTaylor.com!
