“Skimming” by PSiMiTAR

PSiMiTAR, the hiphop/soul duo from Newcastle, UK is back with another glossy, hypnotic track entitled “Skimming”. The track is a silky-smooth, soulful song, which the duo knows all too well. PSiMiTAR is the perfect mix of Neo-soul, R&B, and pop, and “Skimming” perfectly encapsulates this.

The song begins with DJ and vocalist LKP’s velvety voice, accompanied with dreamy guitar chords and flawless chiming keys. Steesh’s (Baron Von Alias) untarnished flow comes in, adding to the hip-hop/R&B side of the duo. His voice is low toned and raspy, which fans of rappers such as Rejjie Snow and Mac Miller will love. Emotional lyrics such as “I was wrong. Too forgiving. Too far from the shore I was swimming…” highlight’s how we struggle with our decisions in life.

According to the duo, the track is about how we get to the other side when dealing with mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety. We shouldn’t be afraid to reach out and get help; there is nothing to be ashamed about. Not only is the song a beautiful, fun song to vibe out to, but the emotive tone of the song is extremely important. “Skimming” is there to remind listeners to talk to others about our issues and it is ok to ask for help.

“Skimming” is also an ode to late rapper & singer Mac Miller, as his music had a huge influence on Steesh’s music. PSiMiTAR is a duo that is so hard not to like, and “Skimming” is just another song added to the list of bangers. Take a listen now, you won’t regret it!
