There is something of a trance that the Oxford-based Pearl Diver is able to put audiences under with their latest, “Give It All Away.” The second single from their upcoming debut set to drop in 2022, it’s a song that takes you on a journey not only sonically but mentally as well as it dives into the basics of our life; existence.
“Give It All Away” opens with the poignant, “As amazing as it is and it brings me to tears, this isn’t it.” Pearl Diver really lays it all on the table with a singular line and while this can be interpreted in a number of ways, they’re speaking about our spirits because while everything may perish in the end, our spirits live on. As someone who can dive into a panic attack thinking about death, this song sort of acted as a calming blanket for that. Ironically a weighted blanket to take the weight of reality off my back.
Pearl Diver dropped their first single, “You Can Bring Your Darkness,” in early 2021. It set the bar for what to expect from their 2022 debut, and their second raised it. Both songs have this laid back aurora to them with musical arrangements that only compliment the beautiful, poetic lyricism. It will be interesting to hear what else they have in store for the rest of the album.
