Q: I like the emotional journey that “BLADE” goes through as an EP. What inspired you to write the songs?
Jennalyn: It all comes from a place of self expression and trying to channel either pain or joy into a sonic moment and make it worth something!
Q: Walk us through your writing and production process in making “Famous”?
Jennalyn:I started famous with John Samuel in May or June of 2021. It was a random session and we vibed and wrote this angsty anthem. I wasn’t very attached to it but I became obsessed with the demo and knew I wanted to put it on BLADE. It didn’t feel like my sound yet so Kat Kennedy and I reworked parts of it, made it a tad more reckless. I was really unsure of the line “I’ll figure it out when I’m famous” when we wrote it initially because it seemed like such an arrogant thing to say. But it came from a place of honesty and after bringing it to Devesh Dayal (who was my main producer on BLADE) we reworked a lot of it and I was sold. It felt really honest. I went through a final rewrite with Kat Kennedy and it took us forever to mix it but it’s one of my favorites and holds a special place for me.
Q: I love your vocal tonality on the EP. What first got you into music?
Jennalyn: Thank you! I started performing onstage in church when I was 4! I got more serious about music when I was around 13 and started writing and recording.
Q: What has been one of the highlights of your music career so far?
Jennalyn: My release party hands down. I had a few people fly in for it and just the outpouring of love and support I received, I was really touched.
Q: What has been, so far, your favorite song to perform and why?
Jennalyn: These Lights is my favorite to perform because we have chair choreography and it’s really dramatic and sexy haha.
Q: What would you like to say to your fans out there?
Jennalyn: Whoever’s listening and reading this thank you from the bottom of my heart! I hope my art can inspire you to be yourself x
