Artist Interview: “The Same” by Aleena Loren

Q: I love how intimate and honest “the same” is. What inspired you to write the song?

Aleena Loren: I had a falling out with my childhood best friend and never really confronted my feelings. I sorta pushed it aside telling myself It didn’t bother me when in reality I was really hurt. I had talked with a few people and they said they’ve felt the same way so I wanted to create a song that felt relatable, to make people feel understood.

Q: Walk us through your writing and production process in making “the Same.”

Loren: With the song ‘the same’ my cowriter/producer Ben and I wrote it about 7 months after the falling out.. Dug into my diary, talked it over, went to the piano and started writing it! With the production I had showed him a few inspiration songs and how I wanted it to sound kind of like classical, cinematic with harmonies and orchestra but at the same time dark pop.

Q: I’m so in love with how expressive your vocal is. What first got you into music?

Loren: Thank you so much!! I think I’ve always been into music, since I was a little kid about 3 years old I made singing videos on our family desktop and both my parents made music. My mom made a Christian pop album in her 20s, my dad went around Canada singing and playing guitar, my brother Justin plays piano and sings and my brother Caleb writes and raps so I’ve always been surrounded by music.

Q: What has been one of the highlights of your music career so far?

Loren: Making music I truly love, just the feeling of being happy with what I create and people resonating with it.

Q: What has been, so far, your favorite song to perform and why?

Loren: I’ve actually never performed my music before.

Q: What would you like to say to your fans out there?

Loren: Thank you so so much for listening to my music and supporting me, It truly means a lot. You’re not alone, you can get through anything. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel.
