02Drano’s “Didn’t Ask For” has a soft futuristic vibe to it that we love and that makes sense seeing as it draws inspiration from artists like Sade and The Weeknd. Its unique sound is soothing and focus driving or that’s the way we feel when we listen to it. Focused. 02Drano describes the song as “encapsulating Blade Runner-esque imagery and soundscapes with modern takes on traditional soul and RnB.” Yeah, we can see it. And what’s the song about? Yearning for the return of one’s true love. Perfect since it was released on Valentine’s Day 2022.
It is easy to fall in love with this debut song with its steady rhythmic tapping of the drum and absolutely dulcet vocals. Completely ignore the lyrics, and that alone is enough, but when you focus and actually pay attention to the lyrics, you find that it really resonates because we all have had that experience, right? We have all yearned for the love of another at some point in our lives and this song speaks to that, not only through lyrics, but through the instrumental side of things as well with its soothing tones and great rhythm.
Overall, this is a great in-your-feelings song. We highly recommend it for relaxing, focusing, or just because. And, given the sources of inspiration for 02Drano, (the likes of which include Aretha Franklin, Alton Ellis, Khruangbin, James Blake, Sade, and The Weeknd) we can’t wait to see where things go next with this Rising Artist.
