The absolutely electric energy of Adam Brookes’s song “Different Times” is awesome. Whether cool synth lines or entrancing vocal melodies, there was constantly something new and interesting happening.
“Hearing a smile” is one of my favorite phrases, and on the surface, it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Try saying the name of a place that brings back happy memories. Now do the same thing with a place you’ve always hated. They’re different right? When someone enjoys something you can hear it in their voice. “Different Times” captures that underlying happiness phenomenally. Through the chorus, the words feel lit up by spotlights. Every up and down of the melody feels bigger than it actually is, and it’s all because of the uplifting and passionate delivery.
Another element I adored was the energy. Whether led by the poetic and playful vocals or the powerful rhythm section everything felt rock steady and energizing. Sometimes you want to dance to music, and other times, like this, music makes you want to dance. “Different Times” is almost difficult to sit still and listen to in fact.
If it’s not obvious, I could go on and on about how great Adam Brookes sounds on this high-energy release. Instead of rambling aimlessly about all of the great things going on, however, I’m going to let the song speak for itself. If you haven’t had the opportunity to hear Brookes before then you’re definitely not going to want to let another day go by without hearing his delightful music. A delightful release that emboldens an already great discography.
