Artist Interview: “Used To Be” by Jback

Q: “Used To Be” is a genre-fusing track with elements of pop, r&b, and indie rock. In your own words, how would you describe the music you typically create?

Jback: My main genre is pop, but in the end of the day we make music. For me music has no boundaries, it’s about expression. So for example if I feel that an r&b element fits in the song I will use it. Also I have strong EDM influences and I think this is clear in the most of my songs.

Q: What are you hoping listeners take away from, “Used To Be”?

Jback: That’s a great question! Sometimes we can’t express what we feel but a song can. So first of all I hope to give in the listeners who go through a similar story a way to express themselves and something they can relate to. But of course, I hope that anyone can enjoy it and dance, party and have fun with it.

Q: The production on “Used To Be” sounds so professional and captivating! What was your favorite part of making this track?

Jback: Thank you! I love both production and song writing. I first wrote this melody when I finished my music production lessons back on 2020 and I finished the whole instrumental a year later. The lyrics came a few months later. So it was 3 parts actually and I was in different phase in every part . But if I have to choose one I will go with the songwriting cause I feel it’s the part where the story starts.

Q: I always love to know the backstory of an artist’s love for music. Do you remember what/who first got you into music?

Jback: From young age pop culture affected me a lot not only in music but also in to my lifestyle. I’m 22 now and when I started going to my first parties as a teenager it was the EDM era. Artists like Avicii and Martin Garrix introduced me in to DJ world. I loved this music and I loved DJing. So I start to search a few years what exactly means to be a DJ/producer and when I was 16 I bought my first controller and downloaded my first daw.

Q: If you could collaborate with any artist (dead or alive), who would it be?

Jback: Justin Bieber for sure. I love his music but also his story inspires me a lot. My music has a lot of influences from him. Of course there are many artists that I admire and I would love to collaborate at some point.

Q: What has been one of the highlights of your music career so far?

Jback: I release music for almost a year now and I play lives as a DJ a little more. I can’t choose just one, I feel blessed. I released 3 tracks independently with great results for an upcoming artist without support, I made a videoclip with the biggest production company in Greece and now I signed my first songs with major labels. Also I count many live shows and residences in the biggest venues in Greece with the most of this shows getting immediately sold out. And at this point I want to thank everyone for the love and the support.

Q: Any projects in the works?

Jback: I have a lot of plans! I don’t know when this interview will be uploaded but a week after “Used to be” at (27/5) I’m gonna release a collab. Also this summer I want to present you my festival side with a pure EDM release. Along with that I’m in the making of my new show and I really want to make a big tour.

Thank you for having me <3
