“Pink Felt Trip” by The Chemistry Set

The Chemistry Set is a name you may already know and love, a duo from London that was founded by Dave Mclean and Paul Lake in 1987. This latest album release “Pink Felt Trip” is a celebration for their 35th anniversary which was recently released on the “Fruits de Mer” label, this album represents their 61st release.

Self titled track “Pink Felt Trip” kicks the album off to a fun start, it makes you want to gather your friends and start moshing. The psychedelic group is taking you on a trip straight from the start, the heavy gritty guitar plus the heavy drums takes you on a different level. You can’t stop yourself from saying “here it comes” over and over. As the album continues, the trio is doing a cover of Mark Fry’s “The Witch” with a twist by adding a Gregorian Chant intro that was taken from The Bee Gees 1967 song “Every Christian Lion-Hearted Soldier”.

As the 40 minute album goes on it introduces you to the ever so popular, “Paint Me A Dream”, a song that is loved by many on YouTube. This sticks true to their psychedelic side but also has the surf, beach wave vibe to it. It makes you feel like you’re on a trip, you’re going to want to close your eyes and just be in your own world.

This may be your first introduction to The Chemistry Set and what a great way to get to know them, on such a special anniversary. The trio is a loveable group that you won’t be able to get enough of, the UK band is really providing unique music to the world.

“The Rubicon” continues your journey into “Pink Felt Trip” and what a trip it is, you’re back to having fun and dancing with your friends or maybe even alone in your room. This band knows how to make music that’ll appeal to many people. Their YouTube page is proof of that. The killer guitar solo will take you to a different astral plane as the song comes to an end.

Sadly the album is coming to an end, but thankfully it’s ending so beautifully with and 11 min trilogy called “Self Expression Trinity”, this starts off as instrumental tune will put everything going on in your mind at ease. It’s a calming song that is showing a different side of The Chemistry Set. They are a band that is easy to love and listen to.

The last two halves of the song stick true to their style, they leave you on a happy note and with a smile on your face. “Pink Felt Trip” is an album for the ages.
