Artist Interview: “The Soul PT 1” by HAFTO

Q: How has growing up in Dallas, Texas affected your music?

Growing up in Texas keeps you grounded and being able to interact with people who have had different experiences taught me about life. There is not really a big urban culture like Houston but, it is a place where it is laid-back and has a mild version of everything that may seem crazy in other major cities. Dallas has given me a lot and I hope to return the favor back.

Q: We love the production on “The Soul PT 1”! What first got you into music?

All credit is to Zach Sutton and Synovial Audio. The thing that got me into music was being able to express myself freely and vent. I was someone who would internalize what I was going through and walk around with a smile on my face. It was at one point that listening to artists would give me joy and let them be the soundtrack for my life. I always enjoyed writing poetry and took a chance on being able to share it with the world. In a weird way, it became therapy and I have been grateful ever since.

Q: Walk us through your writing and production process in making “The Soul PT 1”.

I wanted to make a song that had a lot of religious elements as well as some pop culture references. I wanted to display my writing ability so I started writing melodic songs instead. There were different directions that I was going to take the song whether it was aggressive or the type of references. The song Pound Cake by Drake came on, and I knew that was the vibe that I needed to go for. I always enjoy writing the song more than the production process so, this time I brought someone else to handle the mixing and mastering of the song. The song went through many phases and it seemed that this was the perfect transition from chapter 2 to chapter 3.

Q: What has been, so far, your favorite song to perform and why?

I have not been able to perform due to some personal reasons but, I am hoping that I will be able to rock the stage someday.

Q: What projects are currently in the works?

I am working on a track that showcases the culture that I identify with. That track will focus on both regrets as well as being hopeful for the future. Then, I will have another single release that will talk about bettering my ways. Then, it will be the first EP project for Chapter 3.

Q: What has been your favorite moment when making this track?

My favorite was the relief that I felt in the process of making this song. It truly felt that I cleansed myself. It was interesting how my mental space got better and other aspects of my life got better. I am excited to see what the future holds. I suggest that you stay tuned for more updates.
