“Impress You” by Kent Dustin

Hailing from the Gold Coast of Australia, indie rock artist Kent Dustin has made his name known throughout the world with his upbeat music and optimistic demeanor as he celebrates the human condition through his art. His newest release “Impress You” adds volumes to this colorful persona as he puts his deepest and most personal thoughts on display in ways only he can. Characterized by smooth and memorable guitar hooks, a resonant baritone voice, and lyrics that read like poetry, the music seems to flow from the artist’s heart to the listener’s with every verse.

The piece begins with an acoustic guitar playing a riff that sits somewhere in between blues and classic rock. As the tune builds momentum, Dustin’s vocals appear shortly after to give the song its narrative wings. Beginning the story on a flirtatious note, he sings “Well I’m grinning like a fool from across the room every time you glance in my direction.”

Dustin’s message truly is what drives the piece from start to finish. In the pursuit of love and not just a passing fling, he muses over the idea of spending time with this woman as an investment and seeks to demonstrate his value in unique and personal ways. Lines like “What if I wrote a song for you, got your name in a heart tattoo, maybe then do you think I’d get a mention?” give listeners a glimpse into his sentimental and ruminative proclivities and culminate in the thesis of the piece, best said through his words “Everything I got, I’d invest in you.”
