“Tell Me“ by Poison Oak

“Tell Me” by Poison Oak is an emotional track about watching someone you love go through a difficult time, fading into a subdued and distant version of themself. Emotional guitar riffs, dynamic vocals, and big drum hits support the vulnerable lyrics and create a landscape of grief and love.

The chorus is enveloping and moving, with the standout element being the raw and passionate vocal singing “tell me, tell me where do you go?” The performance is desperate, begging this person for an answer. It’s always tough to watch someone who is physically present be emotionally far away, and even harder to know how to help them. “You disappear within your head” is a poignant lyric that expresses this. They are right in front of you, but it feels like they are completely unreachable.

Whether they are going through a specific hard time, or feeling weighed down by everyday monotony and the challenge of maintaining mental health, watching someone change into a shadow of themself is bound to make you feel helpless. Poison Oak explores this beautifully and offers the listener solace, and a bit of hope, if they are in a similar situation.

There is no easy answer to what to do in this position, and the tense production and mournful melodies make you feel that uncertainty. Poison Oak asks “can you ease my heart?” in hopes that this person will come back to themself and trust in their relationship enough to ask for the guidance and support that Poison Oak is more than willing to offer.
