Q: Hey Tabea, Introduce yourself to our audience here on Rising Artists!
TABEA: Hey, guys! I’m a 27-year-old singer-songwriter from Germany, living in Portugal at the moment. Nice to meet you all 🙂 I have started recording my own music just this year, and I’ve recently released my first EP “Better Daze”.
Q: Describe your creative process.
TABEA: It all usually starts with a small idea. That can either be a story I want to tell, a feeling I want to express, or a melody that got stuck in my mind. I usually scribble that idea down quickly, and later, when I have a moment, I sit down and build the rest of the song around it. If I had a song sitting around for quite a while, and I haven’t recorded it yet, I sometimes go over the lyrics and melodies again, to see if that all still looks good to me, or if I can improve it.
Q: Is there any back story on your artist name? Why did you give yourself that name?
TABEA: Tabea is actually my regular first name. I never really liked it that much, because it’s a bit unusual, but now, as a musician, I realized the value of having a unique name.
Q: You have recorded everything yourself at home that’s pretty impressive, how did you learn how to do that?
TABEA: Thank you 🙂 Well, so far I have been recording everything on an iPad, with Garage Band. The options on it are pretty limited, which was sometimes frustrating, but that also made it all quite straight forward. I think I figured it all out during the process, and if I didn’t know how to do something, I would just watch a couple of YouTube tutorials to find it out. That’s probably why my recording process took forever, but at least now I feel a lot more skilled when it comes to music production. Also, I have upgraded to an actual computer now 😉
Q: What made you want to become a musician?
TABEA: I’ve always been a storyteller, and I have pretty much constantly new ideas. I’ve expressed myself in other ways than music, such as painting and writing, but music has a certain priority position in my heart. It transports emotions like no other form of art can, in my opinion. It allows me to capture a thought or a feeling just as it is in a certain moment. This can change the second after, but that moment has now been conserved forever, and other people can experience a part of it too, when listening to the song. It makes people feel united, in a certain, very human way. However, I don’t think I ever consciously chose to be a musician. It feels more like my passion for it doesn’t leave me a choice, but to make music.
Q: What can we expect from you next?
TABEA: I am releasing a new single on the 9th of July, and I have a lot more material, that I’m planning on recording in the next few weeks. So hopefully another EP will come soon as well. Some interesting collaborations with other artists might be coming up too.
