First Umpire, the project behind Lebanese-American artist and producer Pat Cheiban’s debut single, “I’ll Wait,” is a post-punk, nostalgic but modern, upbeat track. The New York City-based artist’s unique vision is cemented within his latest single, which is a distinctive blend of punk, rock, and new wave. Cheiban’s vocals, which sound straight from the 1980s, and the infectious instrumental are guaranteed to have listeners of all generations tuning in. This impressive blend of genres is sure to pique the interest of even the biggest music enthusiasts.
Before his latest project under First Umpire, Cheiban was already a notable figure in New York’s music scene. His collaborations with popular artists and his role as the guitarist for the band A Beacon School had already earned him recognition. However, with his exceptional guitar playing, he has now embarked on a post-punk journey, a musical evolution that is sure to intrigue fans.
What sets “I’ll Wait” apart is the raw emotions it lays bare–a quality that resonates with listeners. The song serves as a therapeutic exploration of the confusing emotions we all experience, from the struggle to find our place in this world to the challenges of mental health. This emotional depth is a key part of the song’s Appeal. The song is part of the two-song single “I’ll Wait, I’m Here,” which has a much more melancholic nature to it.
When asked about the release, Pat stated: “Going from the naive halls of a college dorm room to the cut-throat realities of the music industry was definitely a rough transition for me. It caused an intense shift in my personal relationships and really messed with my mental health. But through all of that, I felt like I was finding where I belonged. ‘I’m Here, I’ll Wait’ is a culmination of those oscillating emotions.”
“I’ll Wait” is available on all major music streaming platforms.
