Artist Interview: “Starstruck” by LiYON

Q: We absolutely love your voice! Your new song ‘Starstruck’ is really catchy. What first got you into music?

LiYON: I always loved messing with music. At first, when I was a young teenager in the 90’s I loved hip hop, making cheapo beats with my synth, rapping, and scratching and what not. So I guess you could say that artists like Wu-Tang, Puff Daddy, Nas & Beastie Boys got me into music.

Q: Can you tell us what ‘Starstruck’ is about?

LiYON: It’s an 80’s influenced pop track with a touch of sadness to it but it’s still pretty dancy. “Starstruck” is about an overwhelming feeling of lust and love. It captures the feeling of being trapped within someone’s grasp – almost hypnotized by an attraction so perfect at that exact moment in time.

Q: What has been one of your most favorite memories along the path to making ‘Starstruck’?

LiYON: Making the music video was definitely sick. A few of my friends helped out (Studio Florida and Clash Films) and since it was covid and we had to social distance, my girlfriend offered to help out and act in it, she ended up doing a great job.

Q: Who are some of your biggest inspirations?

LiYONDefinitely the ones I mentioned above and maybe like Radiohead and Slowdive would be in there for sure.

Q: If you could talk to your younger self, what advice would you give them?

LiYONQuit music now, ya lowlife! Go study finance or something, and get a haircut!

Q: What’s coming up next for you?

LiYON: I’m releasing a new track I’m super excited about. It’s a dreamy and cinematic track with heavy bass. It’s going to be called “The Good Times”.
