Artist Interview: “Burning Like A Dream” by J. Levi

Q: Hey J. Levi thanks for coming on to Rising Artists. We have fallen in love with your single “Burning Like A Dream” and think it’s such a great song! Tell our audience on here more about you!

J. LEVI: Glad ya’ll are feeling it! Felt like, when creating it, it would resonate with a lot of people! As far as myself, I just started making and releasing music this year. Burning Like a Dream is my fifth single and have a lot more on the way. If you enjoy good music that is attempting to talk about some serious themes in a melodically pleasing way then I’m your guy for sure.

Q: “Burning Like A Dream” is such a great summer song! What was your creative process in making it?

J. LEVI: This song started off as a more acoustic, less DJish, song but quickly grew into more of a hype song in the studio. I wanted to write a song that touched on that feeling of wanting to either do something, or not do something, but finding it impossible to will yourself either way. In this context, it was being in a relationship that was wrong and wanting to get out but not being able to for what were undoubtedly spurious reasons.

Q: Did any real-life events occur in your life that inspired this single?

J. LEVI: Sure, I mean who doesn’t have real life events that match this song?! Maybe not romantically but surely there’s something you’ve wanted to quit but have felt powerless to do so. For me it was some addictive behavior and a toxic relationship.

Q: Was there a pivotal moment in your life when you decided to follow your path as a musician?

J. LEVI: It was March 2020 right as the world shut down and my work told me I was going to work from home for the foreseeable future. It was then that I decided I was going to, with all the extra time I had at home, write as many songs as I could for a week straight. I think I ended up writing like 15 songs (3 of which I’ve released already – Risk It All, Cada Manana, and Summer Never Lasts) within the two days. Sent the demos to some friends in the music scene and they loved it and so decided then to actually invest in the songs by getting into a studio and record/produce them.

Q: We love your songwriting, who are your biggest influences?

J. LEVI: Man this is a tough question. I’m big on wordplay, schemes, and double-or-triple entendres and so I would say that influence certainly came from Rap/Hip-Hop and the Battle Rap scene. Lil Wayne, Drake, A-Ward, Loso.

Q: What is coming up next for you?

J. LEVI: Have quite a few songs to release before the year is out and right now, looking to collaborate with some other artists on a song that I think is an absolute bop and that will do really well called “Sage”.
