“DISTANCE” by MANNERS is the chaotic, dark pop song you’ve been searching for. It’s always gratifying to hear a song in which the lyrics match the music flawlessly. The lyrics of this song are tinted with aggression, fierce audaciousness, and most notably–power. Musically, we get deep, buzzing synths and minor, sometimes chromatic melodies. It feels like a Billie Eilish song but edgier. If that’s what you like, it’s a no-brainer. You’ll love MANNERS.
It starts with a bold synth and a lively drum beat. The melody of the intro foreshadows the chorus, which is always a treat. Everything drops momentarily as the vocals come in, low and copiously distorted. MANNERS’s voice sweeps in and the instrumentation returns with a bang. We ride the wave of the verse into the pre-chorus, then, the long-awaited chorus.
“Listen, / You should keep your distance / Baby, I’m insistent,” MANNERS growls in a deep, authoritative register. The intro melody comes back in the most gratifying way, giving the listener something familiarly catchy to grasp onto. The chorus will fill you with this gloriously feral energy. You’ll want to put your headphones in and power-walk down the street. It’s catchy, scornful, and undeniably indulgent.
“DISTANCE” is something totally unique to add to your playlists. You’ll find that it communicates a feeling that’s distinct from other songs you’ve heard–and if you like it, there’s more where that came from. Be sure to give MANNERS a listen, a follow, and a download! She’s incredibly creative, cool, and naturally gifted.
