Dating has surely changed a lot since our grandparents and even our parents were swinging singles. Today, hookup culture has fully taken over and that can and often does make dating, well, complicated…to say the least. You think a night together means something and the – don’t. Sadly, it’s a situation that happens more often than not. I’ve been there, and when I dug into “When The Lights Went Out” by Bailey Tomkinson, every “U up?” text from a certain someone came rushing back to me.
It’s hard to tell in the moment that someone only appreciates your company when, as Bailey Tomkinson sings it, when the lighting in the room is minimal. She takes this common scenario, as tragic as it can be, and spins it into a song you want to sing and move about to. Her vocals come through in a very classic, singer-songwriter, Carly Simon sort of way but in a modern, uptempo way. It’s no wonder she’s been dubbed the Taylor Swift of Britain. Could our favorite here in the states have competition? No, because we see these two joining forces one day and hopefully uniting for one hell of a duet.
Bailey Tomkinson released her debut EP, ‘Hey Ace,’ back in 2018 and since then has dropped a myriad of singles that have highlighted a wide array of what she is musically capable of. That includes her previous single, ‘Bright Red.” That song, “When The Lights Went Out,” and all the rest of this dynamic artist’s music is available now on all major music and streaming sites.
