The Ramon’s latest single, “Worth A Try”, was released on March 16, 2022. It comes after his other two releases from this year, “I’m Okay” and “Heaven To Me”. The song is a collaboration between artists The Ramon and Leon Ellus. Each is credited with performing and writing the song, though The Ramon tells us a bit more about that later. “Worth A Try” tells the story of getting closer with someone you least expected.
“Worth A Try” is a beautiful story about taking that first shot at love after being hurt over and over. The song is made even more beautiful by the realization that it is talking about giving someone who has been a constant in your life a chance at being more.
“Worth A Try” starts off with a slow build up of anticipation before we are introduced to the percussion line. The vocals are strong but envelop you in a sheet of comfort and gentleness. The instrumentals bring you to a sea of tranquility and you’re left to let the lyrics wash over you. They really start to sink in with “you were around when God gave a sign, I could be wrong, but it’s worth a try.”
Based in LA, The Ramon has worked with many talented artists and producers. The artist has released his music with different labels including Pandafunk Record. What you may not know about The Ramon is that he is a small business owner and also a Senior Account Manager in the video games industry. He says “I work to feed my tummy and make music to feed my soul.”
Q&A with The Ramon
Q: “Worth A Try” is a collaboration with Leon Ellus, right? Can you tell us a bit about how this pairing came to be?
RAMON: Yes, it is a collaboration with Leon Ellus. He messaged me on IG because he heard one of my tracks which I released on the same label he had his songs signed to. He sent me his instrumentals and fell in love with it right away! We share a similar passion for melodic pop and dubstep as a whole so it was a fun and easy project for me because we were getting along well when we were chatting and we share a similar vision for the song.
Q: What was the creative process in making “Worth A Try” a reality?
RAMON: I told Leon to send me his finished instrumental and share with me his inspiration behind it. I then soaked and immersed myself with the track he sent me for a week, listening to it in the car a few times a day and in my bedroom trying to hum and make vocal melodies on the spot. Whatever melodies that stuck with me was the melody I went with and then I started writing the lyrics after a week.
My inspiration was a friend’s experience of falling in love with someone she wasn’t expecting that’s why she had a lot of reservations and questions in the beginning. She later realized that the past traumas they had were the very same things that pulled them closer to each other.
Once I had the lyrics and melody, I then recorded it on my phone just for reference and sent it to Leon. He said he loved it so I scheduled my studio session to record my vocals the week after!
Q: You’ve worked with so many talented individuals. What would you say the highlight of your music career has been?
RAMON: Believe it or not, this is a hard question for me. I consider each song release as a highlight of my music career because each song brings out a different style, a different story and a different set of emotions and I treat each release as my baby. But just for the sake of giving an answer, I would say the highlight would be my first song ever released and that was called Downlow in collaboration with Cabuizee and Marc Mercs under Pandafunk Records. It was the catalyst of our music careers and lead to a lot of opportunities after.
Q: What is the music scene like in your area of the City of Angels?
RAMON: I am so blessed to live in Los Angeles! It is really the center of arts, music and entertainment! I’m someone who embraces and appreciates all genres and different forms of entertainment as I get a lot of ideas and inspirations from it.
You can find up and coming talented musicians playing at cafes any day of the week. We also have different music halls and arenas and of course, the all year round music festivals! Just an example, I was able to watch Incubus, Tool, Paul McCartney, Post Malone, Kevin Hart and Jokoy all in one year and attended Coachella, Beyond Wonderland, HARD music festival and tons of small shows of major artists on a weekly basis like Andrew Rayel, Gareth Emery, SG Lewis, Arty, Saymynme, Fisher, just to name a few.
I also attended VMA music awards night and American Music Awards a few times!
Q: If you could collaborate with absolutely anyone, who would it be and why?
RAMON: Seven Lions would be my dream collaboration! When I was starting to release my original music in 2016, I was still trying to find my identity as a singer-songwriter in the Dj/ Producer dominated EDM industry but Seven Lions influenced me in the sense that I was able to free up my soul and allowed me to be unafraid of embracing my style but not limiting myself in a box. Seven Lions has a distinctive style and yet, explores different sounds and genres both in his original songs and live sets.
