Q: I love how “Rocks” has elements of pop, rock, and electronic pop, making them all flow together flawlessly to make this unique, genre-fusing track. What was your favorite part of making “Rocks”?
Silent Disco: Producing and recording the post-chorus was a ton of fun as a whole. We really loved the way the guitar and the synth were able to line up perfectly giving us a nostalgic, 80s dance-pop/rock vibe.
Q: From the lyrics, I think this track is a love song; what inspired you to write “Rocks”?
Silent Disco: (Addison, singer-lyricist/songwriter of Rocks) I was dating a girl at the time who was fascinated with crystals, and as a band, we thought it would be a cool idea to write about it because it can be relatable to people who also carry the same interest. It was a new concept of writing a love song because you don’t hear a ton of people talk about that type of spirituality, so having that unique topic come up was cool to run with and execute.
Q: Who would you most like to collaborate with, if it could be anyone in the world?
Silent Disco: There’s definitely a ton, but some top ones would be Kevin Parker (Tame Impala), Jack Antonoff, George Daniel (The 1975), The Band CAMINO, The Police
Q: “Rocks” is so unbelievably catchy and intoxicating! What was your creative process in creating this track?
Silent Disco: We started out as an acoustic “duo” (Blaine on Guitar, Addison singing) working out melodies and lyrics and really the foundation of the song. We then came together as a band to work on drums, synths, bass, and getting the rest of the pieces together. We finished off by recording vocals and layering them.
Q: Was there a pivotal moment in your life when you decided to follow your path as a musician?
Silent Disco: (Blaine) – When I joined the School of Rock franchise. (Ryan) – When I started playing with Blaine in middle school. (Addison) – I found songwriting and music as a way to cope with mental health. (James) – When I joined the School of Rock franchise it made me want to play again and follow it as a passion. (Zander) – When I was 9-10 years old, I played in Senior homes and I liked seeing how happy people became because of my music
